We pay tribute to the memory of Dr. Robert Quinn, a respected physician in Santa Cruz who passed away in December 2024. He dedicated nearly 30 years as a physiatrist and rehabilitation specialist to Dominican Hospital and served the final four years of his career in a senior executive role within the Dignity Health Medical Foundation.
When Dr. Quinn arrived in Santa Cruz from Toronto, Canada, in 1995, he encountered Dominican Hospital’s rehabilitation facility housed at our Frederick Street campus. It was far from the modern, state-of-the-art center he envisioned for his patients. Yet, Dr. Quinn didn’t see limitations; he saw an opportunity. He held an unwavering belief that the Santa Cruz community deserved access to world-class rehabilitative care, delivered close to home.
Under Dr. Quinn’s visionary leadership, the rehabilitation program achieved accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). This significant milestone was a direct reflection of his commitment to excellence, innovative treatment plans, and his deeply ingrained philosophy of person-centered care. CARF accreditation signified that the program not only met but often exceeded national and international standards, providing patients and their families with the assurance of the highest quality of care.
To honor his decades of leadership and dedication, the Dominican Hospital Foundation proudly seeks to rename the Acute Rehabilitation Unit as the Dr. Robert Quinn Acute Rehabilitation Unit. This renaming will continue to shape and define the future of rehabilitative care at Dominican Hospital for generations to come for each patient who walks through our doors.
